We are a Lahaina‑born company — shaped by resilience, rebuilt with aloha, and proudly led by a Latin American woman.

My name is Ruth “Karen” Bevan, Founder of Moosita Swimwear, and I am Venezuelan‑Peruvian. Our family‑run brand began in Lahaina, Maui, where creativity, culture, and island spirit inspired everything we made. In 2023, the Lahaina fires destroyed our stores, our inventory, and the place we called home. Like many families, we faced heartbreaking loss — but we chose to rise.

Moosita is inspired by the strong women in my family, especially my mother, Maria “Enma” Galvez, whose love continues to guide me. The name “Moosita” comes from my daughter’s nickname, Muchita — a blend of Papiamento (“mucha,” meaning little kid) and the Spanish “‑ita,” a sweet ending from my Latin American roots.

Through every challenge, my husband Chad has stood by my side. His strength, support, and belief in our dream made it possible for us to rebuild. Without him, none of this would be possible.

After losing everything in Lahaina, we relocated to Honolulu, reopening our boutique inside the Waikiki Beach Marriott and expanding our production through our garment studio in Medellín, Colombia. With the support of my children, Rylan and Kenya, my brothers Estiven and Yovani, and our teams in Peru and Colombia, Moosita continues to grow with gratitude and purpose.

Today, Moosita Swimwear blends island style with Latin American craftsmanship, creating pieces that celebrate beauty, confidence, and resilience. Our mission is simple: To bring the warmth of Hawai‘i and the soul of Latin America into every piece we create.
